In our 20 year history, Pelesys has become a global leader in aviation training and we recognize it is the power of our employees that have helped us get where we are today.
Through our employee feature series, we highlight members of our team and their departments to demonstrate how valuable they are to our company and our growth. Our employees are at the core of our business and not only contribute to our on-going success but help make Pelesys a great place to work.
In this employee feature, we sit down with Rob Purdey one of our software developers who focuses on feature development for Pelesys’ Training Management and Deployment System our web-based, online management solution. Rob recently returned to Pelesys after completing his schooling in which he received his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Systems from BCIT.
Welcome back, Rob!
- What do you love the most about Pelesys, the company?
It’s a tight race between the foosball table and the people that make the company such a friendly and welcoming place. I’d give it to the people based on the fact that without them, the foosball table wouldn’t be as useful. Jokes aside, the people really are what make Pelesys great. I’m always taking notes to keep up.
- What do you love the most about your specific role within Pelesys?
At Pelesys, we are regularly innovating our approach to aviation training which means we are always looking to incorporate new features and functionalities within our web applications, specifically our Training Management and Deployment System. This means I get to create software solutions for real-life problems which I love doing.
- Before Pelesys, what did you do?
I was pursuing an imaginary video gaming career. It was difficult to realize that a successful career wouldn’t be real. While I do still game regularly, I’m happy to have carved out a software related career with Pelesys.
- Tell us a bit about yourself – what do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I make the occasional trip to hot yoga while the rest of my time is consumed by video gaming. I’ve been gaming my whole life and will probably continue until my body gives out. My favourite parts about gaming are the opportunities to connect with people from all around the world and crushing noobs.
- What’s your favourite place you have ever traveled to?
Germany has been one of my favourites. I stayed with family friends that live south of Frankfurt in a town called Heidelberg. It was around Christmas, so we checked out some festivities and other things going on around us. Everything was enjoyable and I’d definitely like to see more of Germany and other countries in Europe.
- What trip is on your bucket list?
I want to travel to Japan and Korea. I spent a couple of days in Japan while on my way to Indonesia some time ago, but it wasn’t enough. I’d love to go back and experience more of Japan. After visiting Japan, I’d hop over to Korea and spend time with my friends who live there as well as check out the StarCraft scene.
